Custom Metalwork & Fabrication in Maple Ridge, BC
Automotive metalwork for vehicles where the correct panel no longer exists, no longer fits, or never existed in the first place.
What this work involves
Fabrication is what makes older vehicles repairable. When sheet metal has deteriorated, when a reproduction panel is not available, or when the available panel does not match the original stamping closely enough, the metal has to be made and fitted rather than ordered.
Work ranges from small patch panels let into a rusted area, through to reconstructing a section of a quarter panel, floor, rocker, trunk or inner structure. Metal is shaped, fitted, welded and finished so the repair sits at the right level and follows the original body line.
There is no one size fits all approach here. The method is chosen based on the vehicle, the metal, the location of the repair and what the vehicle is going to be used for once it is finished.
How the work is carried out
- 01Cut back to sound metalDeteriorated material is removed until what remains is solid enough to build from.
- 02Shape and fitPatch panels or sections are shaped and trial fitted so contours, body lines and edges line up with the surrounding panel.
- 03WeldThe repair is welded in and worked down so the joint is sound and the surface is level.
- 04Finish the metalThe repair is finished and prepared for bodywork, with filler used as a skim where appropriate rather than as a substitute for metal work.
- 05ProtectionRepaired areas are sealed and prepared so the work is protected before refinishing.
