What this work involves
Restoration covers the work required to bring a classic or collector vehicle back to a sound, properly finished condition. Some vehicles need one area addressed. Others need the body taken back far enough to see what is actually underneath before any decisions are made.
Every restoration is scoped around the vehicle in front of us. An original survivor with light rust in the lower quarters is a different job from a car that has been repaired several times over decades and carries filler, patch work and mismatched panels from previous owners. Both are common, and both are handled on their own terms.
The aim is not to erase what the vehicle is. Original body lines, factory character, trim details and existing quality work are preserved wherever it makes sense to preserve them, and repaired or replaced where the condition of the metal or the finish leaves no reasonable alternative.
How the work is carried out
- 01AssessmentThe vehicle is looked over and, where needed, areas are opened up so the real condition of the metal and previous repairs can be seen rather than guessed at.
- 02Metal and structureRust repair, patch panels, panel reconstruction, fabrication and factory or replacement panel fitting as the condition requires.
- 03BodyworkDent repair, correction of previous work, panel alignment, gap work and surface preparation so the body is straight before any colour goes on.
- 04Paint and refinishingPreparation, sealing, refinishing and clear coat work suited to the vehicle and the direction of the project.
- 05FinishingColour sanding, polishing and final detail work on the finished surface, then reassembly of the areas we removed.
When you might need it
- A long term project that has stalled and needs the body and paint stage completed properly.
- Rust showing through in quarters, rockers, floors, trunk areas or lower panels.
- Previous repair work that is failing, cracking or lifting.
- A vehicle that is mechanically sorted but still needs its body and finish addressed.
- A recently purchased classic where the true condition under the paint is unknown.
